Eusebio Leal Spengler, Cuban historian plus restorer of Old Havana, passes away aged 77

Prominent intellectual is credited along with rejuvenating crumbling centre into visitor hub

Eusebio Leal Spengler, the Cuban historian who oversaw the transformation associated with Old Havana from a crumbling one fourth into an immaculately restored colonial tourist attraction, has died on the age 77. He had been struggling with cancer.

Leal great restoration efforts became so popular that he became the de-facto gran of the historic city centre then one of the nation’ s most notable public intellectuals.
